Your first visit is all about understanding you and your goals. We begin with a thorough conversation to learn about your symptoms, training or activity history, lifestyle, and what you're hoping to get back to. From there, we'll perform a comprehensive evaluation to identify the tissues and movement patterns that may be contributing to your pain or limiting your performance. When appropriate, this may also include objective measurements or musculoskeletal ultrasound imaging to provide additional insight.
Before you leave, you'll receive your first treatment and a clear plan moving forward. Whether your goal is returning to sport, improving performance, or simply living without pain, you'll leave with a better understanding of what's contributing to your symptoms and the first steps toward achieving your goals.

Initial Evaluation (90 minutes)
Your first visit is 90 minutes to allow plenty of time for a thorough evaluation, discussion of your goals, and your first treatment session. We believe understanding the full picture is essential to creating an effective plan, so we take the time to assess not only where you hurt, but also why the problem developed. Before you leave, you'll have a clear understanding of our findings, your treatment plan, and the first steps toward reaching your goals.
Follow-Up Visits (60 minutes)
Follow-up visits are 60 minutes and are dedicated entirely to your care. Each visit includes a brief reassessment to monitor your progress and ensure we're moving in the right direction, followed by individualized treatment that may include hands-on therapy, exercise progression, movement retraining, and education. As you improve, your treatment plan will continue to evolve so you can safely return to the activities that matter most to you.

Wear whatever makes you feel comfortable. In most cases, athletic or comfortable clothing is the best choice, as your visit will likely include movement assessment and exercise. Depending on the area being evaluated, it may be helpful to wear clothing that allows easy access to the region of concern (for example, shorts for a knee or hip injury or a tank top for a shoulder evaluation). If that's not possible, don't worry—we'll work with whatever you have on while always respecting your comfort and privacy.

No. Memphysio is an out-of-network, cash-based physical therapy practice, so we do not bill insurance directly.
We chose this model so every patient can receive the time, attention, and individualized care they deserve. Rather than designing your treatment around insurance requirements, we focus on understanding your goals, identifying the factors contributing to your symptoms, and creating a plan that helps you return to the activities that matter most.
If you have out-of-network physical therapy benefits, we are happy to provide a detailed superbill that you can submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement. We can also recommend resources that may simplify the reimbursement process. Because every insurance plan is different, we encourage you to contact your insurance provider to learn more about your out-of-network benefits. That being said, upon request we can provide a superbill that you may submit to your insurance company for possible out-of-network reimbursement, but payment is due at the time of service.

Yes. In most cases, Health Savings Account (HSA) and Flexible Spending Account (FSA) funds can be used to pay for physical therapy services. If you have an HSA or FSA debit card, you can typically use it just like any other payment card. If you have questions about your specific plan, we recommend checking with your HSA/FSA administrator.

In most cases, no. Tennessee's direct access law allows you to schedule an appointment with a physical therapist without first obtaining a physician referral.
If, during your care, a referral or consultation with another healthcare provider becomes necessary, we'll discuss it with you and help coordinate that process. Our goal is to make getting started with physical therapy as simple as possible while ensuring you receive the care that's most appropriate for your condition.
If you have questions about your specific situation or insurance plan, please don't hesitate to contact us before scheduling.
